When examining a glass bottle, the first and most important factor is its clarity; a crystal-clear glass bottle creates a visually clean impression on customers, whilst the bottle’s structural integrity enhances customer confidence. Many manufacturers seek to improve the quality of glassware by employing hot and cold spraying techniques, or by heating the surface and interior of the glass bottle and infusing it with granules to enhance its strength. Another method involves applying a powder-infusion treatment to the surface and interior of the glass bottle to minimise the occurrence of cracks, thereby improving the bottle’s strength and overall product quality.
What standards are used to determine whether a glass bottle meets inspection criteria?
This can be broadly divided into five steps, which are listed below for reference and learning.

I. Deformation of the glass bottle body

If the temperature of the glass drop is uneven during the processing stage, the higher-temperature areas will have lower viscosity and are prone to being blown too thin, whilst the lower-temperature areas will offer greater resistance and result in thicker sections. Furthermore, uneven mould temperatures can cause the glass on the warmer side to cool more slowly, leading to thinning, whilst the cooler side cools more rapidly, resulting in thicker sections.

IV. Cracks in Glass Bottles

Cracks can take various forms, ranging from creases to clusters of very fine wrinkles. The primary causes are overcooling of the glass droplet, the droplet being too long, or the droplet failing to land at the centre of the preform mould and instead adhering to the mould cavity wall.

V. Air Bubbles

Bubbles formed during the moulding process are often large individual bubbles or clusters of small bubbles; these differ from the small, evenly distributed bubbles inherent to the glass itself.
